BroadBand Light (BBL) Photofacial

Erase sun damage, redness, and uneven tone, without surgery or downtime

What is BBL?

BroadBand Light, or BBL, is an advanced light-based treatment that targets the visible signs of sun damage, aging, and skin discoloration at the source. Using precise pulses of light energy, BBL breaks down excess pigment and stimulates collagen production beneath the skin’s surface, without cutting, needles, or downtime.

It’s one of the most clinically proven photofacial technologies available, and it’s why BBL has become a staple treatment for patients who want visibly clearer, more even skin without surgery.

What BBL treats

  • Sun damage and brown spots
  • Rosacea and facial redness
  • Broken capillaries and visible blood vessels
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Early signs of aging
  • Mild acne scarring

How it works

BBL delivers controlled pulses of light into the skin. The light energy is absorbed by pigment and blood vessel walls, breaking down sun damage and redness while leaving surrounding skin untouched. This same light energy stimulates collagen production deep in the dermis, improving skin texture and tone over time.

Most patients see visible improvement in pigment and redness within one to two weeks as treated spots and vessels fade. Collagen-driven improvements in texture and tone continue to build over the following weeks.

Am I a good candidate for BBL?

BBL works best for patients with sun damage, redness, rosacea, or uneven pigmentation who want results without downtime. It’s well suited to most skin types, though patients with very dark or deeply tanned skin should be evaluated individually, since contrast-based light treatments carry higher risk of pigment changes on darker skin tones.

BBL is not recommended during pregnancy, for patients with active skin infections in the treatment area, or for those currently using certain photosensitizing medications. A consultation with Dr. Carroll’s team will confirm whether BBL or an alternative treatment is the right fit for your skin and medical history.

What to expect during treatment

A typical BBL session takes 20 to 30 minutes. Most patients describe the sensation as a mild snapping feeling, similar to a rubber band against the skin. No anesthesia is required, and most patients return to normal activities immediately after treatment.

There is little to no downtime. Some patients experience mild redness for a few hours after treatment, and treated pigment may temporarily darken before flaking off naturally over the following one to two weeks. Sun protection is essential during this period to protect results and prevent new damage.

Most patients see optimal results with a series of three to four sessions spaced four weeks apart, though many notice visible improvement after a single treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Does BBL hurt?

Most patients describe mild discomfort similar to a rubber band snap. No anesthesia is needed, and the procedure is well tolerated by most skin types.

How many sessions will I need?

Most patients benefit from a series of three to four sessions spaced about four weeks apart, though visible improvement is often seen after the first treatment.

Is BBL safe?

Yes, when performed by trained providers under physician oversight. As with any energy-based treatment, candidacy depends on skin type, medical history, and current medications, which is why every patient is evaluated individually at Trinity Med Spa.

Can BBL be combined with other treatments?

Yes. BBL is frequently paired with CoolPeel, microneedling, or injectables as part of a broader skin rejuvenation plan.

Why choose Trinity Med Spa for BBL

Every treatment at Trinity Med Spa is performed under the direct medical oversight of Dr. Brent Carroll, a board-certified physician with over two decades of clinical experience. Unlike spas where light-based treatments are delivered without physician involvement, Trinity Med Spa evaluates your skin within the context of your full health picture, including hormones, inflammation, and sun history, so your treatment plan is built around you, not a generic protocol.
